Objectives/Outcomes:
a) Enabling students to obtain certificates to make students employable in the industry or pursue a higher education program.
b) Relevant exposure to tools and technologies are being offered.

Concept:
The National Program on technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) has initiated certification courses offered on the model of MOOCs on its online courses portal . Through an online portal, online courses are being offered. These courses are typically on topics relevant to students along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities. The enrollment to and learning from these courses involves no cost. Following the online courses, an in-person, proctored certification exam is conducted and a certificate is provided through the participating institutions and industry, when applicable.

The Process:
Awareness is raised via class-to-class publicity, notice boards, emails, and messages, among other methods. Students are urged to enroll in and finish a course from the NPTEL portal's list of available courses. Students benefit from the courses for free and must enroll for the proctored exam if they want a certificate. NPTEL issues certificates to students upon satisfactory completion of the course.

Highlights:
a) Total 9519 candidates enrolled for NPTEL Online Certification course till date.
b) 414+ candidates have received NPTEL certificates.
c) 23 candidates are toppers in various courses.
D) NPTEL is very happy to be associated with Atharva College of Engineering and its students.

Research papers referred by NPTEL:

Mentor of a NPTEL course “Product Design using Value Engineering” is Dr. Inderdeep Singh (Professor, Industrial Engineering Department, I.I.T. Roorkee). He has mentioned and referred three technical research papers of Dr. S.P. Kallurkar, Principal, Atharva College of Engineering for case study analysis in his Lecture no. 11, 12 and 19. The date of commencement of this four-week course was 29th July 2019

Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs)

Objectives/Outcomes:

a) To enhance skills and gain essential knowledge required for student’s field or brushing up the basic key concepts,
b) To build a strong resume and character ultimately grooming students to get easily absorbed in a cooperate life.

Concept:

MOOC is a free online educational program designed by a group of very outstanding professors from famous universities across the globe intended for an unlimited number of participants located at any corner of the world. Interested participants surfs these websites for the courses of their interest and enroll themselves. Further each participant needs to clear the final exam. On successful completion, participants are issued Statement of Accomplishment (without fees for few courses) or certificate (with fees).

Resources Required:

A computer and internet connection or a smart phone with GPRS activated.

Features:
a) Flexibility of time, place, topic and university
b) Excellent professors can reach more students all over the world
c) Slow Learners can review the videos, pause it to understand as per their pace
d) Low Income participants can acquire knowledge from professors of high class institutes
e) Interaction through peer review and group collaboration helps social network building

The Process:

a) A MOOC list consisting of around 100 courses is shared with students and they are encouraged to enroll and complete a course from the MOOC list or of their choice using internet. After successful completion of course, certificates are collected, properly labelled and records are maintained.

Highlights:

a) Total 13149 MOOC certifications till November 2024.
b) An article “Innovation: The MOOCs way” was featured in quarterly published Infoyug newspaper during October-December 2015.
c) In July 2018, an additional 28 courses addressing Graduate Attributes of the Washington Accords were added to the list. Graduate attributes are the high level qualities, skills and understandings that a student should gain as a result of the learning and experiences they engage with, while at university.
d) Coursera provided free certifications to COVID-19-affected universities for one semester during the outbreak in the year 2020. Invitations were sent to 1888 students to join, 1364 accepted, 612 students registered in a course, and a total of 405 certificates were earned throughout this procedure. Coursera is one of the world's largest MOOC providers. Coursera credentials are unique in that they are recognized by employers and universities worldwide, allowing students to qualify for jobs on a global scale.

Students enroll in these MOOC courses to advance their careers, develop new abilities, or raise their chances of finding a new job. Students took advantage of the free certification option offered by Coursera and expressed their willingness in continuing to do so in the future.
