Literary and Debating Society (LDS)

Words Take Flight: Discover the Literary & Debate World!

The Literary and Debating Society is a vibrant forum for engineering students to develop their creative and intellectual potential through an engaging mix of literary activities, structured debates, group discussions and public speaking. The Society empowers students to think critically, express themselves effectively, and develop leadership skills.

Our goal is to foster a culture of dialogue, open-mindedness and appreciation for literature that transcends academic boundaries. Through participation in regular debate competitions, literary meets, workshops, guest lectures and intercollegiate events, students not only hone their language and argumentative skills, but also develop self- confidence and poise qualities that are essential in today’s fast-paced professional world.

Whether you are a passionate writer, an aspiring speaker or someone who wants to challenge ideas and share perspectives, the Literary and Debating Society welcomes you to join us on this transformative journey. Here, words are more than just tools, they are catalysts for change, creative thinking, and leadership.

As John Milton upheld intellectual freedom, dialogue, and the courage to speak with purpose in his prose work Areopagitica in 1644:

“Give me liberty to know, to utter, and to argue freely according to my conscience, above all liberties."

Vision:

To develop thoughtful and confident individuals by fostering a culture of critical enquiry, creative expression & inclusive dialogue, by empowering students to become effective communicators and ethical leaders in a dynamic global society.
